UP Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. is a wholly owned PSU of the Government of UP engaged in Hydro Electric Power Generation in the State.The Company was incorporated on 15-04-1985 as UP Alparthak Evam Laghu Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited to establish, operate and maintain micro & mini hydroelectric power generation plants in the State. In the year 1999 the name of the company was changed to UP Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. and on the unbundling of UPSEB all Hydro Electric Power Projects (large, medium or small) of UPSEB were transferred to Uttar Pradesh Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited.
In 2001,on the Reorganization of the State of UP and creation of State of Uttarakhand, all power projects situated in the geographical region of Uttarakhand were transferred to Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited leaving behind only 1/3rdof earlier installed capacity with Uttar Pradesh Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited.
Presently, the company has power projects located at 7 locations with total installed capacity of 524.9 MU :-
